The beginnings of bethechangeHR

Check this out…it’s the Holstee Manifesto and it hung on the wall at all my jobs:

“This is your life. Do what you want and do it often.

If you don’t like something, change it.

If you don’t like your job, quit.

If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV.

If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love.

Stop over-analyzing, life is simple.

All emotions are beautiful.

When you eat, appreciate every last bite.

Life is simple.

Open your heart, mind and arms to new things and people, we are united in our differences.

Ask the next person you see what their passion is and share your inspiring dream with them.

Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself.

Some opportunities only come once, seize them.

Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating.

Life is short, live your dream and share your passion.”

All this rings so true and even more so for 2017 and my path to starting bethechangeHR.

You see, this year I went through a bunch of difficult “stuff.” What that “stuff” was isn’t important. Life whispers in your ear that there IS a reason for said “stuff” and more often than not you subconsciously know this reason…it’s for the betterment of not only you, but those around you, everyone you’ll directly and indirectly impact, and all you have to do to incite change in your life is listen.

I had been thinking for years about this idea to do BOTH the things I love: HR and philanthropy.

I’ve been doing HR since I was 16 years old when the neighbor wanted to hire me to do his payroll. I got paid $3.25 per hour to process payroll…that man got a deal when he hired me! My career since then has been beautiful mix of hard work and opportunity. Through my HR career I began volunteering at Working Wardrobes, coaching men and women who are transitioning back into the workforce out of some type of difficult life situation: homelessness, abuse, addiction, sex trafficking, and veterans entering civilian life. I give blood, donate money, feed and clothe the homeless.

But I wanted to do more.

I had been toying with the idea of a company who donated a percentage of the money it made to charity, like a .

The concept is called “Conscious Capitalism.”

Companies who are not only “for-profit” but also companies who promises to always give back.

Through all my “stuff” I started thinking about this idea again. Why couldn’t I do it?! Why couldn’t I build a company who promised to always give back.

And that was the birth of bethechangeHR.

Truth be told I have it tattooed on my back -> “Be the change you wish to see in the world”

Overnight I built what I had been dreaming of. And seconds after I was able to launch I got my first client.

Ugh. I am blessed.

I am also out to change the world.

My dream…that I will influence others to be a “conscious capitalist.” That my company will grow into several consultants who believe in great work and the betterment of the world through their work.

And I don’t think it’ll be just a dream…it’s going to happen.

So to all our future clients, thank you for being part of this change. Together we can “be the change” and do some great HR work in the meantime!
